NER to Host Individual, Group CISM Course

Northeast Region CAP will be sponsoring the new three-day combined Group and Individual/Peer Support CISM course, Feb. 19-21, 2010, at Westover Air Reserve Base (ARB), Chickopee, MA. A link for EventBrite online registration is provided below. Please read the instructions on this page before registering. Updated 12 Dec 2009

Times:
Fri, 19 Feb: 1900 - 2200
Sat, 20 Feb: 0800 - 2000
Sun, 21 Feb: 0800 - 2000

The instructor will be Northeast Region Chaplain Van Don Williams. The class size is minimum 20, maximum 40 persons. The Northeast Region is subsidizing a large portion of the cost of this course. The course fee is now $50, which covers workbooks, certificates and 27 hours of instruction. Payment can be made using Paypal when you register online, or by mailing a check. Information on where to send the check will be provided when you register online. If you have already sent a check to NER/CIS, and have not yet registered online, please contact NER/CIS before you register online.

This course is open to CAP senior members, cadets and civilians. Existing CIST members and Wing CIS Officers who do not have the Individual/Peer course are strongly urged to attend as you will need both certifications for continued team membership by mid to end 2010. All students must attend all 3 classes to receive a certificate. Course cannot be split as per NHQ CIST and ICISF.

Notes for Cadets: Cadets must be at least 16 years or older and pay course fee. Cadet MUST be accompanied by a parent or guardian (with parental permission) who has also registered and payed for course, no exceptions. Cadets who attend with a registered parent or guardian will receive a certificate of attendance BUT MAY NOT apply for or be accepted onto a Wing's CISM Team. This training will help them to assist in helping other cadets on the squadron level only. This training is very intensive. This should be weighed with the cadet's maturity and achievement level before parent allows cadet to participate. Cadet will need permission of Squadron Commander along with parental permission to attend.

Notes for Civilians: Civilians must supply SS# or a copy of drivers license; this must be submitted to Base Security Forces at least 29 days prior. This info should be sent to NER/CIS ASAP.

Upon completion of the 3 day course, student will receive 2 certificates of attendance (Group and Individual/Peer Support) issued from the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF). Students can then apply for CEU's. Please check with your state to see if they recognize and accept CEU's.

Note: Refunds will only be granted by permission of NER/CC and only for the most extreme of circumstances.

Billeting for the course is available on base. Please do not call Westover to reserve your room. A block of rooms has been reserved for those who register by 31 Jan 2010. Billeting on base may not be available if you register after 31 Jan. See the EventBrite online registration form below for more information. Updated 17 Dec 2009
